He wasn't a star player for the UCLA Bruins football team. But wide receiver Nick Pasquale was still an important member of the squad. According to reports, he earned the nickname "Pacman" from his teammates and was an integral part of the UCLA scout team. So it's incredibly sad to hear that Pasquale, a redshirt freshman, died over the weekend after being hit by a car in his hometown of San Clemente, Calif.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department has reported that Pasquale, 20, was hit at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. An investigation into the crash is still ongoing, and police aren't exactly sure what happened to cause the accident. But the driver who hit Pasquale did pull over and stay with him until paramedics arrived after the crash. Unfortunately, though, Pasquale succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

"This is a tragic loss," UCLA coach Jim Mora said yesterday. "Nick was an outstanding young man who had a positive impact on everyone who knew him. He was a great teammate who was loved and respected by his entire team. Our thoughts are with the Pasquale family."

Ours, too. R.I.P. Nick.
