Shameful.

Over the years, we've heard about quite a few black athletes who have had bananas thrown at them during games. Fortunately, a number of them have been caught. But during an Orioles/Giants game at AT&T Park in San Francisco yesterday, Baltimore outfielder Adam Jones claims that a fan threw a banana at him and got away with it. He saw it happen, though, and called the fan out for it on Twitter after the game:

I want to thank whatever slapdick threw that banana towards my direction in CF in the last inning. Way to show ur class u jackass.

He also was apparently outraged at the response that he got from his tweet. It seems that some fans out there were actually defending the fan who threw the banana, which led to Jones firing off this tweet:

I love how some ppl are defending the actions by someone today. Shows how u really are also. All good wit me. I just #StayHungry

And before the night was over—once he realized that the racist comments weren't going to stop coming from the peanut gallery that is Twitter—he even threatened to quit social media:

Good chance this means I get off social media soon

We wouldn't blame him one bit if he did decide to jump off Twitter for awhile, especially after looking through some of the @ messages that he has received in the last 24 hours (WTF is wrong with some of you guys?!). But we hope that he realizes that most of us out here think the alleged banana-throwing incident was just as outrageous as he does.
