Fun fact: The Toronto Raptors are called the Raptors due in large part to the popularity of the movie Jurassic Park back in 1993. Although the finalists for their team name included suggestions like Beavers, Dragons, Grizzlies (that would have been awkward!), Hogs, Scorpions, Tarantulas, and even Terriers (WTF?), the franchise eventually settled on Raptors thanks to Steven Spielberg's blockbuster hit. But 20 years later, the nickname doesn't make a whole lot of sense. So the Raptors new management team is reportedly considering a change.

"We're definitely going to look at it," Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment president Tim Leiweke said earlier this week. "It doesn't mean we're committed to it. It means it's a good conversation."

If the Raptors do decide to make a change, though, they'll be a part of a growing trend around the NBA. Recently, the New Orleans Hornetschanged their name to the Pelicans. And the Charlotte Bobcats have also reportedly decided to start the process of changing their name back to the Hornets. So we say the Raptors should go for it. Well, either that or embrace the Raptors name by bringing back these amazing jerseys. No more half-steppin', fellas. Either embrace the Raptor…or don't.
