1977 was a year of firsts for Portland: their first winning season, their first playoff appearance, and (obviously) their first Finals appearance. Nobody would have begrudged them a bad showing. Superstar center Bill Walton simply wouldn't allow that to happen, though, who rallied his team after they were literally pummeled in Game 2 to win the next four games and the title.

The bearded redhead was in the middle of all the action, putting up 20-18-9 in Game 3, grabbing 24 rebounds in Game 4, and narrowly missing out on a quadruple-double with 20 points, 23 rebounds, seven assists, and eight blocks in Game 6. Walton's MVP-winning effort prompted his coach Dr. Jack Ramsay to say that he had "never coached a better player" than Walton.
