It official: The one-off Aston Martin 'Jet Coupe' has achieved highest price ever paid for an Aston Martin at Auction. The car was sold last weekend for $4.9 million to an anonymous bidder (Ralph Lauren perhaps?) by Bonhams Motorcars of London.

Envisioned by legendary automotive designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, the car began life as a stock DB4GT before being transformed into the legendary 'Jet Coupe.' Custom coachwork is courtesy of Italian design firm Bertone and  the engine is a DOHC straight six, capable of pumping out 302hp at 6000 rpm and 240 lbs-ft of torque at 5000 rpm.

The car made its official debut at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. It also received a 'First In Class' award at the 1995 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
