Believe it or not, stats don't always tell the entire story. Marc Gasol is living proof because, according to Chris Vernon, the Grizzlies center will reportedly be named the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year. Gasol was 12th overall in blocks with 1.74 per game, compared to 3.03 by leader leader, Serge Ibaka. However, as CBS Sports points out, when it comes to defensive rating, Memphis allowed 99.3 points per 100 possessions with Gasol on the floor, as opposed to 105.9 with him off.

If he does in fact win, maybe Gasol should give a special shout out to his unique sneaker defense
