Lionel Messi Named the Third-Best Argentine Athlete of 2012

According to the Argentinian Association of Sports Journalists.

Even though Lionel Messibroke a 40-year-old record by scoring 90 goals in 2012 and firmly established himself as one of the best to ever play the game of soccer, the Argentinian Association of Sports Journalists wasn't impressed. In fact, they ended up naming the 26-year-old forward the third-best Argentine athlete of 2012. Third-best?! Seriously, who could possibly top Leo?

Here's the breakdown of the top honors from the Associated Press:

Argentine boxer Sergio Martinez was awarded the title of "Olimpia de Oro,'' given to the South American country's top athlete in voting by the Circulo de Periodistas - or association of journalists.

Um, OK. Yeah, Martinez won the WBC Middleweight title but Messi broken a record that stood for 40 years! As for Crismanich, we have no rebuttal for the taekwondo fighter. So, we can settle with second-best for Messi.
