Early this morning, a Kansas City Chiefs player killed his girlfriend at a house. Afterwards, he drove over to the team's facility in Arrowhead Stadium and committed suicide. Deadspin is reporting that the individual who shot himself was reportedly linebacker Jovan Belcher

The Chiefs released the following statement: "We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

We will offer further details as they become available.

UPDATE: The Kansas City Star is reporting that Belcher shot his girlfriend multiple times around 8 a.m. in the 5400 block of Crysler Avenue in Kansas City. Sadly, the woman's mother was present and witnessed the incident. Upon arriving to the Chiefs' practice facility, the 25-year-old "met with coaches in the parking lot" and thanked general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel prior to committing suicide.

It is also being reported that there was "a confrontation with team personnel, in which they attempted to stop the player from committing additional acts of violence" before he shot himself. When the police showed up, they claim to have heard the single gunshot that killed Belcher.
