When BMW HQ asked the American leadership if they wanted the new M135i hatchback, the response Munich got was "Americans don't buy hatchbacks." Over the next couple of months, BMW USA's higher ups finally realized that Americans do buy hatchbacks now, (just not in the Midwest) so the M135i was requested. By then it was too late to modify the car to fit our safety standards.
Yup, we're not getting a powerful, sporty, fast, and practical hatchback of awesomeness because of a management blunder.
