When writer John Jeremiah Sullivan pitched a story to The New York Times a few months ago on the legacy of the Williams Sisters, he had no idea that they'd go and re-write their histories this summer. So, when he finally touched base with both of them recently, his story turned out much differently than he originally imagined.
