Anybody who wanted a Subaru STi with a nice interior and a three pointed star on the front is going to be very sad. Mercedes' hot hatch, the 350hp, AWD, AMG version of the A-class, will not be sold in the US.
The rationale is that, despite the great sales of cars like the Ford Fiesta and Focus and the Mini Cooper, Americans don't buy hatchbacks. We think this would be a perfect car for people who are becoming too respectable for their Subaru STis and Mitsubishi EVOs, but we're not German product planners.
