On June 9, U.S. Commerce Secretary, John Bryson got into a set of accidents just outside of LA in his Lexus, rear-ending a Buick, driving away, and hitting the same car again, leaving the scene. The 68-year-old Bryson was found unconscious in his car after the crashes and was taken to the hospital. He has not been booked on charges of felony hit and run and authorities are not attributing the crashes to drugs or alcohol. Commerce officials claim a seizure was the reason for the crashes.

Bryson wrote his letter of resignation stating: "I have concluded that the seizure I suffered on June 9th could be a distraction from my performance as Secretary and that our country would be better served by a change in leadership of the Department."
