Technically, this is old news. As of yesterday, we already knew that Kyrie Irving was going to win the NBA's Rookie of the Year award. But, the NBA made things official this morning when they gave the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard the ROY trophy—and a free Kia!—at a press conference in Cleveland. Irving easily bested the second-place finisher Ricky Rubio with 117 first-place votes (Rubio earned just 49) by averaging 18.5 points, 5.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game during his rookie campaign. But, even more importantly, he helped the Cavs forget about the last guy who won a ROY award (hmmm…wonder who that could be) and got the franchise back on the right foot again.
