Tim Howard co-hosted and starred in Landon Donovan's debut today when his routine kick took one giant bounce and sailed over Bolton keeper Adam Bogdan's outstretched arm to put Everton up 1-0. The lead didn't last long, however, as Bolton scored four minutes later and Gary Cahill put the game-winner in the net with twelve minutes remaining. Howard's goal was only the fourth by a goalie in English Premiere League history and put him in Brad Friedel's company as the only other American. Out of respect for Bogdan, Howard barely showed any reaction to the surprise score.
“It’s not a nice place to be,” Howard said. “I’ve been there before — a long, long time ago — and that was why I didn’t celebrate.”
