Kerry Wood and Cubs Agree to New Deal

Kerry back!

The storied relationship between pitcher Kerry Wood and the Cubs will continue. A fan favorite in Chicago, Wood agreed to a new one-year, $3 million deal with a club option in 2013. GM Jed Hoyer said the fans were definitely taken into consideration with the signing.

"We both understand the history of the organization and understand which players mean a lot to the fans and the fan base, and Kerry is one of them," Hoyer said. "That's something we're aware of. Fresh eyes are one thing, but that doesn't mean you ignore the rich past the Cubs have."

In an injury-shortened season last year, Wood went 3-5 with a 3.55 ERA. He since has had surgery on the torn meniscus in his knee and is expected to be fully healthy for the start of Spring training.
