Our gut says there's absolutely no way the Heat sign Greg Oden before the start of the NBA season. And that might actually be a wise decision. Oden is, after all, still recovering from a series of crippling knee injuries and might not even make it back to the floor this year. But, the Heat seemed poised to, at the very least, make a run at signing the former No.1 overall draft pick.

According to several league sources—and, really, when are they ever wrong?—the Heat are going to make a run at signing a big-time center over the course of the next week and they've got their short list of candidates down to Nene, Samuel Dalembert, Kwame Brown, and Oden. Of those options, Nene will be too expensive for them. Dalembert will likely resign with the Kings. And Kwame Brown is, well, Kwame Brown. But Oden could be looking for some redemption after the start to his NBA career and, hey, in spite of the fact that the Blazers have the power to pay him more, it doesn't hurt to ask, right?

The Heat clearly need a center and they're willing to do anything to get one. Now, who wants to play alongside LeBron, D-Wade, and Bosh Spice this season?
