Another prestigious award was handed out at today's New York International Auto Show: the World Car of the Year. The Nissan Leaf, with its electrifying zero emission status, edged out two bigger, more expensive competitors—the 2011 Audi A8 and 2011 BMW 5 Series —for the 2011 title.

In other sub-tier categories, the Chevy Volt took home the title for Green Car of the Year, as well as North American Car of the Year. Shifting into an entirely different gear, the 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia earned the title of World Performance Car of the Year, while Aston Martin's Rapide clenched the World Design award.
