Kanye West has appointed former Nike designer Nur Abbas as the head of design for Yeezy, the brand confirmed via a press release this morning.
In his new role, Abbas will be tasked with expanding the Yeezy brand and will report directly to West. Abbas will oversee the direction and the launch of special projects for the Yeezy brand including Adidas Yeezy,Yeezy Gap, and the Yeezy Stem Player.
“I’m energized to work with Ye because he cares so deeply about design and moving culture forward,” Abbas told WWD. “At Yeezy and Gap, I’ve met some of the most talented people and teams, and I’m looking forward to working with them all to extend this new creative vision to the world.”
Per his LinkedIn profile, Abbas most recently worked at Nike as the design director for the brand’s ACG line, spending over five years at the sportswear company. Prior to Nike, Abbas had stints at Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Uniqlo.
