When the delivery guy answers my initial question with "Can you open the garage because it is a big crate?" you know you have something good.
To be honest - I had no idea what this could be. My birthday was last month (Jan 27th for all of you that forgot to get me a gift) and maybe this was a late gift? So I called my girlfriend and she said it was a gift that came in late - and to NOT open it until she got home. So the wait was on and damn, I hate to wait. I had a feeling it was something in a frame and the ONLY idea that I had was that my girlfriend had one of my photos framed. But on the label it says it came from Portland...... so no way is she getting something framed from Portland.
Open goes the box - and I'll be damned.... this is a piece of artwork from my good friend Vincent Clervi (some of you know him as Krupky)! My girlfriend overheard that I liked the work Vincent did for the Doernbecher auction last year and she found his card and contacted him for a birthday gift.
Man..... the older you get (and this usually starts when you are 19) the less surprises you get on your birthday or Christmas. When you are a kid you get totally jacked up because you are going to get some surprises.... but when you are an adult those surprises are far and few between. I can honestly say - this was a TOTAL surprise and I SOOOO DIG IT! My girl is mounting it in a shadow box next week and we'll hang it up in the game room / sneaker room.
