Six years after his inaugural collaboration with Nike, artist/industrial designer Tom Sachs is back with another update to his NikeCraft Mars Yard model.

Ahead of the sneaker’s limited release, Sachs welcomed Highsnobiety to witness his first unboxing of the Overshoe collaboration, while dishing on its design and intended wearer.

“This is really for the month of March, in New York when it’s rainy and sludgy,” Sachs explained. “I made this because, I don’t know if you’ve worn [the previous Mars Yard sneakers] in any rain whatsoever—it goes right through; it’s like wearing sandals. [Older Mars Yard models are] great because they’re really breathable, but it sucks because you need a little protection. My muse for this is Demetria White […] I imagine her going from fashion show to fashion show […] in the torture of New York City and how that could be, or those months after the snows fallen […] So I made these shoes for her.”

You can watch Sachs’s full interview and unboxing in the video above. He also addresses his longtime relationship with Nike as well as which two celebrities he would like to see rock his new sneaker.

The NikeCraft Mars Yard Overshoe will have an in-store, limited release at Dover Street Market London this Thursday (Oct. 11). A worldwide drop will be announced in the upcoming months.
