For those who know, the Air Jordan V Retro “Grape” shouldn’t surprise you on this list. One of the original four colorways released in 1990, the “Grape” iteration was retro’d in 2006 and returned to Jordan Brand retailers in May 2013 almost 20 years after the sneaker first graced the covers of a Wheaties box cover shoot with Michael Jordan wearing them. It was also worn by Will Smith on Fresh Prince making it a sensible get for “Bel-Air” collectors.
The popular Trophy Room x Air Jordan 5 Retro “Ice Blue” sneaker is a symbolic representation of the trophy room in the Jordan family home. The rich suede light blue upper is paired with University Red and Sail finished with a gold lace lock. The lateral heel is printed with metallic gold numerals “23” and “5” as an ode to Michael Jordan and his son, Marcus. Only 7,000 pairs were released in May 2019 individually numbered.
Air Jordan V “Wings” is the perfect example of when activism and fashion come together. Featuring the artwork of Chicago students from Little Black Pearl, “Wings” references Michael Jordan’s scholarship fund dedicated to giving young people equal access to a quality education. The Jordan “Wings” logo appears on the underside of the tongue, next to the statement “Everyone Can Fly.”
Another memento sneaker for MJ, the Air Jordan V Retro “Laney” is inspired by his North Carolina alma mater, Emsley A. Laney High School, whose colors are royal blue and yellow. The 2019 version is a remake of the popular 2000 release with a mostly white upper and hits of the same blue and yellow color scheme. Laney-colored kicks are a classic investment for serious sneakerheads.
When the Air Jordan 5 Retro V “Olive” first surfaced in 2006, it was similar to the UNDFTD X Air Jordan IV’s and quickly became one of the most sought after models. “Olive” features an army green suede upper and solar orange inner lining with a metallic silver finish on the tongue.
Last, but not least, the Air Jordan V Retro RA “Laser” was a Jordan Lifestyle release in 2007. A unique laser-designed pattern in army green is paired with a solar orange midsole. One of the more rare Air Jordan V silhouettes, this sneaker has a custom embroidered Bison Jumpman on the heel and patterned lining.
