According to a recent survey, teens prefer Nike over any other brand in both the footwear and apparel categories.

According to a recent survey, teens prefer Nike over any other brand in both the footwear and apparel categories.

The survey, conducted by research firm Piper Jaffray, showed that Nike was particularly dominant in the footwear category, where 46 percent of the teen respondents selected it as their preferred brand. In a distant second place was Vans, at 9 percent.

Note that Nike's main competitors in the sportswear world barely even show up in the results. Under Armour is nowhere to be found among preferred teen brands, and adidas only shows up on the footwear list, where it came in as the eight most-preferred brand, behind others like Sperry Top-Sider and UGG Australia.

If either Under Armour or adidas are hoping to catch up with Nike, the teen market is clearly one that they need to focus on.
