Have you ever seen this Nike Mayfly sample from 2007 paying tribute to the late Geoff Hollister?
Hollister, one of the first Nike employees and the man behind important Swoosh product like the Aqua Sock and the AW77 Windrunner jacket, has his likeness plastered across the graphic upper of the shoe. There's even what appears to be a VW Van in the background, a reference to the sort of vans that early Nike employees used to sell sneakers out of.
The Mayfly design itself is tied to an early ambition of Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, who said that the perfect running shoe would last just for one race. The Mayfly was hence designed with an intended short lifespan, just like its namesake insect.
