LeBron James Triple Double Sneakers

by Brendan Dunne

The Nike LeBron 2 was part of plenty important moments in LeBron James' career, having been on-feet for him during his second season in the NBA. In that season, James recorded his first career triple-double, doing so in the pair shown here.

So how did the sneakers make their way from James' personal collection to an auction house where they're currently fetching a couple thousand dollars? According to SCP Auctions where they're listed, the owner of the shoes found them at a thrift shop in Youngstown, Oh., in the summer of 2010. The auction house speculates that the sneakers landed there when an angry Cavs fan ditched them in the wake of James' departure to Miami the same summer.

The shoes have a scuff consistent with one seen in photos from James' first triple-double game, they're his size, they've got markings on the tongue consistent with how Cavs equipment managers designated his shoes back then and they even came with a note appearing to be from a Cavs staffer to James.

UPDATE 12/6: The auction for this historic Nike LeBron 2 has ended with a winning bid of $28,651.
