Never known to shy away from marketing that pushes the envelope, Nike released a new television spot featuring Tiger Woods and late father, Earl Woods, on the eve of Tiger's return to competitive golf at the 2010 Masters tournament. The ad begins with a seemingly saddened and regretful Tiger Woods staring directly into the camera, while a recording of his father Earl is played, speaking about taking responsibility and learning from his actions. "We support Tiger and his family. As he returns to competitive golf, the ad addresses his time away from the game using the powerful words of his father," Nike said in a released statement. Nike is one of the few companies to stand behind Woods after these problems were made public.
What do you think? Is this a case of Nike exploiting an unfortunate situation to help propel Tiger back to his former greatness? Or do you believe that this is a genuine tribute to the person that was undoubtedly Tiger's biggest influence? Sound off.
