If you've paid any kind of attention to extreme sports in the last 15 or so years, the name Dave Mirra should instantly ring a bell. Simply put, Mirra is a BMX icon and the all-time most winningest athlete to ever participate in the X-Games. Dave has also become a force in rally car driving and had some crossover success, making an appearance on the George Lopez Show and hosting two seasons of the Real World/Road Rules Challenge on MTV. Dave is a legend in his field and carries a name that commands respect amongst his peers.
After meeting Dave at the Susquehannock Trail Rally in 2010, Brush Footwear CEO and artist Benjamin Smith was inspired to work on a custom shoe for Mirra to wear during the 2011 race. Knowing that DC heavy-hitters like co-founder Ken Block and motorsports legend Travis Pastrana have already had signature product, Smith thought it was about time to hook Dave up with a shoe that he could call his own.
For the base of the Mirra shoe, Smith used DC's Villain TX slip-on. The look is inspired by Mirra's 2011 rally car, which features jet black sides, a bright blue roof and lemon-lime detailing. Mirra's logos are painted on the vamp and heel of the shoe without the aid of any stencils. All painting was completed with a final high gloss coat.
