With the NBA postseason reaching its peak, it's time for us to crown another important champion on the hardwood. The 2018-19 season marked the first year that the league lifted its sneaker restriction guidelines, which in turn allowed players to wear whatever they wanted on any given night. But it wasn't just hyped-up and obscure pairs (we see you, PJ) that stole the show. Brands capitalized on the new rules, rolling out a number special colorways for players like James Harden, Kyrie Irving, LeBron James, and Russell Westbrook, just to name a few.
Beyond the crazy colorways, this year also featured tech breakthroughs in the signature space. The Air Jordan 33 introduced a never-before-seen lacing system, while the Kyrie 5 saw the debut of Air Zoom Turbo cushioning. Nike even managed to keep Kobe Bryant's franchise nearly as relevant as ever, with a Kobe A.D. model that was beloved leaguewide.
