Of Tinker Hatfield's countless contributions to the sneaker world, few have had the lasting impact of visible Air. First introduced on the Air Max 1 in 1987, the sneaker's signature Air bubble is said to have been inspired by Hatfield's visit to the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Known for its intricate see-through construction, the museum is once again influencing Nike's design, this time as a special set of Air Max 1s.
The Air Max 1 "Centre Pompidou" pack includes two contrasting colorways—one in "Pure Platinum/Royal Blue/White" and a second in "Wolf Grey/Black/Cool Grey." Each version features borders around the model's signature lines, putting an emphasis on its architecture-like structure. The "Pure Platinum" colorway uses dashes of red, blue, yellow, and green, while the "Wolf Grey" style makes use of silver on the upper, restricting its color to the outsole only.
Both of these Air Max 1s are set to make their way to retailers soon, with some retailers advertising an Aug. 29 release for the "Wolf Grey" iteration.
