Because the No Fun League is still behind the times, it's still punishing players for having a little fun with their gameday footwear.

Most recently, New Orleans Saints rookie running back Alvin Kamara was slapped with a $6,079 fine for playing in his Christmas-themed Adidas SK "Stocking" cleats last Sunday. Featuring red suede construction, velvet detailing, fuzzy white trim and actual jingle bells, the cleats were made to look like traditional Christmas stockings. Other Adidas athletes, such as Minnesota's Adam Thielen, wore similar pairs during pregame warmups, but Kamara decided to go to work in his.

The fine isn't exactly a surprising move by the NFL. In fact, Kamara was warned about the uniform violation during halftime and joked that the "Grinch" would probably steal Christmas when asked about his flashy footwear after the game. Per league policy, players are permitted to wear solid black or white cleats, accented by the team's primary and secondary colors—red doesn't quite fit in with the Saints' scheme. Washington tight end Niles Paul is the only other player who's been fined for cleats this season.

Kamara set up a GoFundMe account, hoping to parlay the publicity from the fine into a charitable contribution to Willie Hall Playgrounds Recreational Department to provide cleats to its youth football program. To date, the account has raised more than $5,300.
