Michael Jordan's got a new role starting in the fall as captain of the Michigan Wolverines football team. According to Yahoo! Sports, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh announced on the Rich Eisen Show on Friday that Jordan will be the honorary captain for the team's season opener on Sep. 3 against Hawaii.

Michigan's current adidas contract expires at the end of July. Beginning in August, 2016, Nike will be the school's official apparel outfitter. More specifically, Jordan Brand will outfit the football team–hence MJ's spot on the squad.

There's no word yet on what sort of exclusive shoes the football team may receive from this partnership, but don't be surprised if they unveil something special for the start of the season.
