The Air Jordan IX is one of the most under-appreciated silhouettes in the Air Jordan line, at least numbers 1- XIV. That's because Jordan never actually played basketball in these sneakers, and they were produced in a year that he decided to retire from the sport and play baseball with the Birmingham Barons. It's only appropriate the most recent retro of this sneaker has ties to a non-basketball moment, too.

The "Anthracite" Air Jordan XIs are modeled after a pair of PEs given to the Oregon Ducks as they were on their way to play in the school's first BCS National Championship against Auburn in 2011. The sneakers are set to officially release, although missing the Oregon branding, on September 5, according to Sole Collector. The retail price will be $190.
