Kevin Durant lost his aunt to Lung Cancer back in 2000 and has been honoring her in every way he can. Aunt Pearl changed his life, and very well may be the reason we get to enjoy Durant’s skills as a player today. Every year KD and Nike team up to bring a new edition of the “Aunt Pearl” KD, and each are challenging and unique in their own way.

Typically, the uppers are dominated with pink and floral patterns, but this year it seems they’ve taken a different tact. Instagram user alexwei_0305 has early photos of the pairs and what we can see are an almost entirely white upper on the KD 7, with gold accents. Pink flywires pop up for the lacing, and show through the upper’s mesh. What’s most remarkable is the strap across the quarter. Bucking the normal flat strap, Nike has opted for a feathered effect to look like wings. Perhaps the signify the guardian angel that Aunt Pear represented to KD, or her position as an angel now that she’s passed away.

The sneakers are reported to drop on February 19. Stay tuned for more information as we get it.
