You thought the Nike vs. adidas war here in the States was bad? In Herzogenaurach, Germany, the choice you make between wearing adidas or Puma says more about you're social standing than anything else.

You see, the Bavarian town plays home to both adidas and Puma, with residents south of the river sporting adidas and citizens to the north supporting Puma. The city's affiliation to sneakers is so strong that it has become known as "the city of bent necks," where everyone's first glance is at your sneakers. The rivalry between the two factions is heightened by the city's two soccer clubs, ASV and FC. ASV has always been affiliated with adidas, while FC could be counted on to wear Puma. This season, however, both teams decided to lessen tensions, by wearing one kit made by adidas and another by Puma. The results have been pleasing, as the town is not divided over sneakers like it once was, as brand supporters can know play soccer on both teams. Even the city's mayor is getting in on the detente, by volunteering to wear both adidas and Puma gear.
