In today's basketball footwear market, for the most part less is more. Majority of shoes released today feature designs that incorporate either mesh or a fused upper to keep the shoes lightweight and breathable. Nike Foamposite One was a big hit when Penny Hardaway debuted them back in 1997, but have since faded out in the NBA due to it's heavy feel and design. J.R. Smith decided to once again go against the grain, and laced up a pair of "Knicks" Foamposites in last nights loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

The Nike Foamposite One "Knicks" is an extremely rare shoe, and is usually only seen on the Knicks sidelines laced up by Spike Lee, so the fact that J.R. brought them out is surprising. Guess he felt the weight throughout the game as Smith went just 4-11 from the field, and even opted to switch to the Kobe 9 EM "Peach Cream" at half.

Would you lace up a pair of Foamposites to play ball in? Let us know your thoughts, and check out J.R. Smith laced up in the "Knicks" Foams and Kobe 9's below.
