Being a participant in this sneaker culture goes beyond owning a fresh pair of kicks. It's about making meaningful relationships with some really great people that help drive this entire genre.

Nick Kicks Associate Editor George Kiel has just announced the Kick & Roll Classic, which is a sneaker-themed 3-on-3 basketball tournament that he created in honor of his late mother, Debra Kiel, who passed away due to colon cancer. The basketball event will raise awareness for colon cancer and help generate revenue to furnish homes, which commemorates Debra Kiel's passion for interior decoration.

The event is officially sponsored by former NBA player Josh Childress and the Josh Childress Foundation. A live DJ and special NBA guests will be at the event, while prizes and giveaways will be provided by sponsors like Foot Locker and Nike.

The tourney will be divided into two age groups (15-18 and 19 and up) and costs $200 per team. The Kick & Roll Classic basketball event takes place at the Round Rock Sports Center in Austin, Tex. on July 11 and 12 and registration begins June 6. For more details, be sure to visit KickRoll.com.
