Earlier this week, Nike officially unveiled Kevin Durant's seventh signature sneaker. The KD 7 brings together the latest Nike innovation with personal touches reflective of Durant's life. Right out of the gate, the "Independence Day" colorway already released yesterday and four more styles are set to drop in the coming weeks.

The KD 7 represents a huge milestone for Durant and the Swoosh, but we could've been celebrating an entirely different sneaker altogether.

KD recently spoke with Sneaker News and revealed to them that he didn't like the original KD 7 model at first—the exact one we see today. "Actually, they showed me the shoe last year, and I didn’t like it," Durant said. "I told Nike to try something else, but I later decided to go back to the first model I was shown."

Durant also revealed that, just like any other sneakerhead out there, he also anticipates the colorways that Nike's design team comes up with. "The best thing about it all is just the anticipation, because I know everyone’s looking forward to what the next Aunt Pearl or N7 is, but so am I. I’m always asking 'what do the next Aunt Pearls look like.'"
