Brazil is expected to be hot and humid during the course of the World Cup this summer—not exactly a recipe that warrants layering up for players, right? Well not exactly.

The fact of the matter is baselayers aren’t just designed for cold weather. Depending on their construction, baselayers are also effective in helping regulate body temperature when the mercury starts to rise. Take the Nike Pro Combat Ultralight top for example. Constructed using Nike’s moisture-wicking DriFIT fabric, the lightweight baselayer features a seamless, ergonomic fit designed to breathe easy and help players stay cool under the warm summer sun.

"For 2014, we redesigned the entire base layer system for all Nike Federations," said Martin Lotti, Creative Director, Nike Football. "While in Brasil, our players will potentially face high temperatures so we've created multiple features to increase breathability."

To ensure the home team will be well protected, Nike has rolled out a Brazil edition of the Pro Combat Ultralight baselayer. Players will have three different versions to choose from: black, white and the yellow edition seen above. The baselayer is also available for fan purchase.
