New Yorkers typically root for locals. Unfortunately, that isn't always the case for John Isner. Last night, the American faced off against French opponent Gael Monfils. Throughout the match clapping and cheering punctuated every point. Some parts of the crowd even started to chant “Let’s Go Monfils!”—making Isner feel like an underdog in your own backyard. To everyone’s surprise, the highest ranked U.S. male player managed to pull out a 7-5, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 victory.

"I was a little bit disappointed in that, actually. Not going to sugarcoat it," said Isner of the crowd's bias. "If I was playing in France, it certainly wouldn't be like that."

Gael Monfils was shocked by the crowd’s reaction too. "It was surprising, actually," Monfils said. "It was surprising — but it was good."

The entertainer in Gael never disappoints. This French man is one of the most exciting players to watch "He gets the crowd involved," Isner said. "If you purchase a ticket to watch him play, you're not going to go home disappointed. That's just how it is."

Although he lost, Gael wore his Asics GEL-Revolution 5. The shoe provides great stability for quick movements and an improved upper for comfort and flexibility. And with all the slides and splits that Gael Monfils performs, this is the perfect shoe for him. You can head over to Asics now grab his shoe.
