KNOW YOUR TECH breaks down the scientific technology used in your favorite sneakers and activewear. Let’s demystify your next purchase: today’s technology is adidas miCoach. This performance tracker is suitable for both training and in-game monitoring, and allows for progress evaluation in a number of sports and activities.

What is it? A collection of devices, including the SpeedCell, Pacer, Heart Rate Monitor, Stride Sensor, and mobile apps, which work together to collect your movements and progression as you work towards your goals. Think of it as an electronic personal trainer. adidas takes things a step further by actually providing audible coaching in real time, helping to motivate athletes to hit their mark.

How does it work? SpeedCell, which is tucked underneath the insole of compatible models, tracks up to 8 hours of speed, acceleration, distance, and pace information. The data can then be uploaded to the miCoach community to see how you rank up with other athletes. The miCoach Pacer Bundle (pictured) combines everything athletes need for heart rate monitoring, digital coaching, post-workout analysis, and more. This helps athletes to stay motivated by offering interactive coaching and mapping out achievements and goals.

Notable products: Energy Boost, F50 adizero TRX FG, Crazy Fast

Bottom line: If you need that extra push during your workout, run, or even on game day, miCoach might be the answer for you.
