Thirty years ago, Nike unwittingly changed the sneaker game forever. Upon its release, the Air Force 1 had a hard time moving off of clearance racks. However, things soon changed, and the model has become one of the most iconic basketball sneakers ever.

Over its steady rise from a cult favorite to must-have-for-the-masses, the AF1 silhouette has seen a number of tweaks and variations. But it seems that the sneaker's fanbase is here to stay, no matter how drastic the changes may be. In fact, some pro ballers even continue to wear the model today.

The latest modifications to the Air Force 1 come in the form of performance upgrades. Launched as part of Nike's 12.12.12 AF1 campaign, the Lunar Force 1 is truly the Air Force of the future. The traditional midsole has been stripped in favor of Nike's popular Lunarlon cushioning, and the Max Air unit remains in the heel, making these one of the plushest retro sneakers around. The upper has been reimagined with a Hyperfuse construction, allowing for more air flow than the classic model. It certainly wouldn't be shocking to see this low top in action during an upcoming NBA or college game.

Meanwhile, the high-top AF1 Foamposite gets a crisp update. The seamless, durable upper combines with an updated sole for a rugged, ready-to-wear feel. This is a great sneaker for big men who want to throw a little retro attitude into their game.
