If you’ve been wondering why Rory Mcilroy wants to team up with Nike, maybe the brand’s ever-expanding reach in golf equipment has something to do with it.

Nike Golf shined yet again this week at the company’s Global Innovation Summit in Orlando, Fl. With the introduction of the Nike VR_S Covert, the golf world got a look at the first-ever high-speed cavity back driver that’s within USGA regulations.

Behind it’s stunning beauty, the glossy red driver is so technologically advanced, it just might change the way we look at our ordinary, seemingly outdated, drivers again. The High Speed Cavity Back technology in the VR_S Covert is a feature normally used in irons. Nike now introduces that same innovative technology to drivers, fairways, and hybrids for the first time. By moving the weight of the club to the heel and the toe, the technology increases both distance and control.

If you’re wondering about the dials just above the driver head, that’s what Nike Golf likes to refer to as FlexLoft technology. With a simple turn of a dial, golfers can change the loft and face angle, giving them 15 different options in a single club—pretty mind-boggling if you ask us.

Greatness comes at a price. For the Nike VR_S Covet, the price ranges between $299-$399 (depending on which of the two options you go with). Expect to see the driver in golf stores nationwide starting February 8, 2013.
