As soon as he hit the pro cirucit in ‘96, Nike helped turn Tiger Woods into one of the highest paid athletes in the world (third highest as of 2011). Now that Tiger has seemingly faltered both on and off the golf course, Nike has its eyes set on the current number one ranked golfer in the world, Rory Mcilroy, to be the new face of the brand.

The 23-year-old Mcilroy is poised to sign a staggering deal worth $200+ million over 10 years, but when asked about it, the Northern Irishman dished out a slice of humble pie: 'I’ve never been motivated by money,' said Mcilroy. 'All the business stuff will work itself out. What I want is more trophies.”

Mcilroy, will join team Nike as soon as his current sponsorship with Titleist expires at the end of December. We expect big things to come from the Nike and Mcilroy collaboration.
