Big things are on the horizon for New Balance.

In 2013 NB will introduce the HI-REZ road shoe to its already impressive barefoot-inspired Minimus collection. According to the Boston-based sportswear brand, the upcoming minimal shoe is a product of ground breaking innovation being referred to as HI-REZ construction.

Weighing in at just 4.3 ounces (for a men's size 9), the ultra-light runner features 42 independent midsole pods that are mechanically bonded to a flexible foundation, allowing the shoe to move in a synchronized rhythm with the foot. The skeletal upper on the shoe is covered with octagonal prints for hugging support. Needless to say, these minimal runners are intended for use without socks.

Look for the NB HI-REZ road shoes to drop for $120 in April 2013.
