43. Etonic Quasar
Etonic went all out with the Quasar design. In terms of technologies and money's-no-object madness in the quest to be number one (for which we can blame the jogging boom of the time) 1984 was the year when the expensive running shoes started dropping in greater quantities with some bombastic advertisements. Etonic put the fiberglass Dynamic Reaction Plate into this model to disseminate impact, stop over-pronation and propel the foot for the next stride. Bizarrely but brilliantly, the lacing ran around the collar to support the rear of the foot and you can't knock any shoe that had a application called the 'Dr. Rob Roy McGregor Foot Cradle' the technology that was originally applied to 1979's excellent StreetFighter.
