1. Nike Air Max 1

Year: 1987

The shoe inspired by the sight of Paris's Pompidou Center is a tough shoe to dislike. The Air Max originally dropped with a bigger air bubble, but quality issues meant it was reduced a little. This is the shoe that let you see its inner workings and it's a model that's got maximum crossover appeal. We've seen way too many nondescript colorways lately, but those original makeups, the Currys, original Atmos variations and Patta takes benefited from the small Swoosh on the forefoot in an early '00s style. Over the years, things have changed in terms of shape and that branding for the worse, but the Air Max 1 still carries a certain aura — especially when the color blocking's on point. This shoe changed everything.
