The ASICS Gran Turismo II is the shoe that brought us Gel technology. That was a giant leap for the Japanese ASICS corporation and it's something that kept them at the forefront of proper running shoes to the present day. In a deceptively simple package, that reactive Gel technology, a tri-density midsole, synthetic suede extended heel counter all combined for some athletic alchemy. ASICS were confident enough in this release and their talk of the Geltec, Ltd. company to trash talk Nike in their ads — with the brand once being the breeding ground for BRS which became Nike, that was quite a statement. Long Beach's Proper deserve their place in history for opting to collaborate on a pair back in 2003, breaking out the speckles and military references long before the rest of us did.
