13. Nike Air Stab

Year: 1988

It's all about the stability. That jagged application to the Visible Air on the Nike Stab completed a top-of-the-line runner that cost some outlandish sums on its debut. The synthetic suede and nylon mix made this one of the most memorable of the late 1980s Nike Air output, alongside some masterful use of pop color. The Stab stayed in circulation for a couple of years, with the Air Structure arriving with similar looks and use of pop shades. Unlike the secret weapons unleashed earlier on the decade, the Air Stab looked costly. Bizarrely, years after the Stab's 2005 re-re-release, it was the subject of some idiotic controversy due to the name and non-existent links to London's knife crime "epidemic."
