41. Nike Air Windrunner
With that single-density sole unit, resilient rubber outsole and effective but basic looks, the Air Windrunner's an unlikely contender. Some would say 1987's Air Support deserves a place over this shoe. It wasn't the kind of shoe aimed at "real" runners, but it was fairly affordable (more so as the years passed) and was picked up by several hip-hop acts (witness Kid 'n Play repping the Windrunner), got a Jordan III-style elephant print application in the late 1980s before it became played out and was incorporated in the fabled Escape line too. That's serious. Contrary to misinformation, the Heaven's Gate cult offed themselves in black and white Nike Decades rather than the Air Windrunner.
