Jordan scored 51 points in this game, 35 of which came in the second half, to rescue victory from the jaws of defeat. Bullets coach Wes Unseld put it best in the post-game press conference: "He got off and we didn't have anybody to stop him. But we were still in it and gave ourselves a chance to win. Hell, I'm telling you that we played as well as we could. But we couldn't stop Michael Jordan. Nobody stops Michael Jordan."
