Ryan Reynolds has shed some more light on why he’s taking “a little sabbatical” from making movies, something he revealed in an Instagram post a few weeks ago.
Reynolds spoke to the Hollywood Reporter at the Wall Street Journal Magazine Innovator Awards on Monday night, and when asked why he’s stepping away from filmmaking right now, he said he wants to focus on his family more.
“I’m just trying to create a little bit more space for my family and time with them,” Reynolds said of wife Blake Lively and their three daughters. “You know, you don’t really get that time back.”
While the 45-year-old said he would miss his time on set during this hiatus, he also gave a vague timetable for when he’ll return.
“So, I’ll probably be away from film, or at least shooting films, till the end of the summer,” he said. “It just provides me an opportunity to be home.”
In an Instagram post in October, Reynolds explained that after wrapping shooting with Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer for their upcoming film A Christmas Carol, he would take a break from making movies.
“Singing, dancing, and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true,” Reynolds wrote in the caption. “And this is my second film with the great [Octavia Spencer]…Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists.”
Reynolds is set to appear in the upcoming Netflix film Red Notice alongside Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot. Deadpool 3 has also been announced, and Disney is set to bring the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in turn.
